SOUND GALAXY

A little galaxy of sounds, a microcosm of notes and rhythms

The project

“Sound Galaxy” unites on the same stage an international group of musicians of different cultures and backgrounds who got together driven by their love of art and beauty. Their music transcends national and cultural boundaries: a guitarist from Spain, a bassist from Cuba, a percussionist and violinist from India - all of them breath and live vital vibration of music.

What’s music, from the physics standpoint? It’s sound waves vibrating at different frequency. Quantum mechanics tells us, that every particle in the Universe vibrates at its own frequency, thus, we can conclude that all of space/time continuum is literally permeated by music. Hence, the name of the band, “Sound Galaxy”. An international group of people, who, like subatomic particles in quantum entanglement, originated in different geographical locations but who, on stage, become one and the same, united by a magic of music, thus becoming part of the omnipresent cosmic music/energy. A little galaxy of sounds, a microcosm of notes and rhythms. “Sound Galaxy”.

The group fuses ancient, mysterious South Indian (Carnatic) music with highenergy modal jazz, the genre pioneered by the stellar band Shakti, created byl arger-than-life, genius John McLaughlin.

The music performance in enhanced with fascinating visual imagery, created especially for “Sound Galaxy” by Jose Ramón da Cruz, one of Europe’s best visual artists and projected on a screen during performance. High energy, mind-bogglingly virtuosic music, combined with powerful visual imagery makes the performance by “The Sound Galaxy” an unforgettable experience.

Enrique Vargas

guitar, composition, arrangements

Enrique was born in Moscow of Spanish parents, refugees of the civil war in their country. He started his studies of classical and flamenco guitar at the age of 10, eventually completing doctoral program at Moscow State Conservatory. In the late 70’s the family repatriates to Spain, and in the early 80’s Enrique moves to NY, where he continues his flamenco guitar studies with famed Mario Escudero, and jazz guitar with Joe Pass, John Abercrombie and Chuck Loeb. In the course of his 20 year stay in NY, he collaborated with various important figures in jazz and flamenco and conducted intense pedagogical activity at the American Institute of Guitar, where he directed the faculties of jazz-fusion and music theory, and taught flamenco and jazz/fusion guitar.

In early 90’s a serious hand injury ended his concert career, and he dedicated himself exclusively to pedagogical activity. Upon his return to Spain in 2001, he started teaching workshops and masterclasses, as well as private classes for professional flamenco and jazz performers. In 2014 Enrique Vargas releases on the market his three-volume manual “Modal Improvisation and Melodic Construction in the Flamenco Environment” in Spanish, English and French, published by a prestigious Los Angeles based music publishing house Sher Music. Recently, thanks to various hand surgeries, he returned to active playing. In 2024 he founded an international jazz/fusion/world music group Sound Galaxy.
